I'm updating my old Macbook (2007) from Tiger to Snow Leopard, I inserted the CD and clicked on install, it told me to restart for the installation to begin which I did and it's now been paused on the booting up screen for 2 hours...is this normal? Have I done something wrong? What should I do?

Reboot your computer and start it
Restarting holding the C key and then accepting the language and installation desired should move you through this very quickly. Have to read a brody's tip on installing SL? Towards the bottom of the list of Communities on the left side of the page under User Contributed Tips. He has some great suggestions.
a brody has some hints in this user tip, but if you are using an Intel porcessor and at least 1 GB memory, though 2 GB is preferred, you should be amble to install. When you did the restart, did you hold the C key so you were booted to the DVD and not just trying to run the installer?
Thank for your response, I didn't know about holding down the C key unfortunately. The system said I needed to restart and had a option showing to restart, I just pressed enter and the computer began to restart itself.
Is there anything I can do to help it now?
Should I turn it off and start again or is it stuck in this cycle?

You are locked up at this point and the system cannot do anything, so yes, shutting down and restarting while holding the C key should get you where you want to be.
