Ipod classic 5th generation does not connect to computer when plugged in

My ipod is able to charge perfectly fine using the wall outlet but when I use to same cord to try to connect it to my computer, it doesn't work. I have tried this with multiple cords. When I connect it to the computer, the ipod behaves as if nothing happened at all. Sometimes I have gotten it to connect shortly by pushing the cord up where it connects to the ipod but never long enough to be able to do anything on itunes.

So nothing appears on the iPod's display when you connect it to your PC? What happens if you place the iPod into Disk Mode first?

Putting iPod into Disk Mode

Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC?

What happens if you do a hard reset of the device with it still connected? To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Thanks for trying to help

Disk mode did not work, when I did this, it got stuck at the "OK to Disconnect" screen when it was connected and not connected.

Yes I am using USB 2.0.

The hard reset also did not work and it just showed the same screen as before I reset it.

Would this possible be a problem with the connector on the ipod itself?
