The grey install discs are specific to THAT model only. You'll need to buy a set of SL retail discs. Be sue the set you buy are OS X 10.6.6. Earlier versions won't work.

In order to figure out what OS you can run on your machine it is necessary to first figure out what machine you have. You started the thread saying it was a 2010 iMac and then changed that to 2011. Knowing when in the year the system was manufactured will make a difference in what you will be able to do.
