iPod Touch 2G & MobileMe

Now that MobileMe has gone away, my .mac (or .me) mail service has been transferred to iCloud and still works fine. I still receive and can send email on my 2G - but all other syncing is gone. What I've noticed however is that while in Mail the spinning sync indicator at the top left next to the WiFi symbol is on continually now. I assume it is still trying to sync with MobileMe that is no longer there. When I go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > My .Mac Account, I receive a popup that says my MobileMe subscription has ended, do I want to delete it? My question is, by deleting this old account will it have unintended consequences? Or, since MobileMe is now gone - and all my mail is now going through iCloud - this will have no other affect?

Thank you.

I would delete it. You can use the mail on your 2G iPod by:

iCloud: What if my device or computer doesn't meet iCloud system requirements?

iCloud: Mail server information
