What if I get an error?
This happened with my dad's iphone 3gs, and it ended up needing to be replaced.
iPhone 4S, iOS 5

I have no idea what you're asking. What error?

I think it was error 3022. The iphone ended up bricked.
Haven't seen 3022... was it Error 3002?
Error 3002: If you experience this error while updating an iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPhone 3G, please use the standard update or restore process in iTunes (click Update or Restore).

I guess I'm still not understanding the question.... are you saying that you now have the same error message?
That's probably it.
It's a hypothetical. I have a relative with a first-gen iPad who we're thinking of updating. I'm just worried that it'll wipe her memory like my dad's phone. I understand why you're confused. I don't phrase things right.
I would not worry one bit about updating. Most data loss is caused by unplugging before the restore process is complete. Error such as your dad's are very rare.
Thank you!
You're welcome, and good luck 🙂
What do I do if I get error 100?
