Problems with sending email attachments to Windows computers.

When I attach a JPG file to an email my recipient using a PC can see the image in the message window, but cannot download/ save to disk. This is no good for me as I'm a photographer who needs to send photos to clients on a regular basis.

I am not a Windows user but it appears that the person does not know how to use his computer.

Would it help him if you zipped the file before you send it?

If it was just one person having this problem I would agree with you, but it has been reported by several of my clients. Zipping files may be a solution, but creates problems for non-expert users who've never heard of zip files! The point is that Mail has previously worked fine, as far as I know, but now I'm having problems sending image files to people. What has changed?

is this an alternative to plain text?

Nope, that remains a good idea!

Is a 3 letter extension all that is required to make images Windows friendly?

Windows is fairly neanderthal: it only knows what kind of file it is if you include a file suffix.

'Send as Windows friendly attachment' is a setting in Mail.app. You will see the button when you click on Attach.

I always include the suffix .jpg on my files, and check the "Windows-friendly" box, but still have difficulties. As I said before, the problem seems to be with Windows OS not recognising the attachment as a separate file. There is no problem sending files from Mac to Mac, or from PC to Mac.

I will try sending message as plain text, and using zip files, but really there shouldn't be any need for this. The beauty of Apple's system is that it just works, without any fiddling about. A flaw like this is frustrating, because it shouldn't happen.
