Can the new mac mini support a consumer grade hd camera for live streaming?

I was wondering if the new mac mini could read a consumer grade hd camera for live streaming? Didn't know if the hdmi port meant that there was an hd video card in the mac mini that could recognize the camera and be used for a live stream.
