Mighty Mouse Jumps

I'm a sysadmin and noticed that all of my users have this problem from one time to another. We mostly use the Mighty Mouse on various mouse pads. I use a Wireless Mouse on a Wowpad (microthin.com) and this happens to me daily. Extremely frustrating. I have to believe this is a much bigger problem than Apple is letting on. I can’t find any support on the Apple site and have found a number of posts in the discussion forums, but with no decisive answers. Come on… this is driving me nuts.

What surface are you running the mouse on? sometimes certain patterns will cause jumping with optical mice.

Do you have the "hot corners" of your screen set up? I had them before, and you can find them under System Prefs>Dashboard & Exposé. I used to have them, and then when I neared them, the cursor would jump to the corner, so I disabled it and now it works just fine.

It is probably the surface under the mouse as Spire said. For some reason the mouse can't "see" where it is on especially white or light colored surfaces.

NO I do not believe this is the problem. There are many posts about this and it appears to be far too common merely to be a mousemat or surface issue. It definitely was not in my case.

A light colored surface was definitely the problem in my situation. The first two days after receiving my new Mac the pointer was constantly jumping to the sides of the screen. I changed the surface under the mouse to a matte black and it has operated perfectly ever since.

If you're not using it on a mouse pad, it's going to happen. It's just what optical mouses do. Mine does the same; it's really not a big deal. And, by the way, it's once in awhile.

My old Apple Pro mouse and my Mighty mouse have this issue. They don't like my walnut desktop. I use a an 8X10 photo for the mice to track. It helps, but does not eliminate it. The problem is with the surface. In my case I don't want to use a mousepad, so I will live with a very minor problem.
