Airplay defaulting to dock connector

hi,

I have had intermittent problems using the BBC iPlayer app over the last two days. When using the app to play video, the sound will stop (silence), and the iPad volume control does not work, or show on screen indication.

I have found that the Airplay menu is set to ¨dock connector¨ even though I'm using the iPad solo.

I have re installed the app, but found that once the error occurs, all other apps are affected - i.e.no volume.

Rebooting the iPad solved the issue a couple of times, but I now find that even the video app, shows Airplay to dock connector, and there is no iPad checkbox on the menu.

Any ideas?

I had the exact same problem and just fixed it. I worked out that if I plugged the charger in, or even my ipod to VGA adapter, the airplay menu went back to showing Ipad instead of "dock connector". So probably was some dust shorting out the connector somehow.

So I tried cleaning the the connector with some LCD screen wipes I had, wrapped around a flat piece of metal i had that was small enough to fit in there but strong enough to get a good rub on the connections, once the connections were cleaned (and the small amount of black on the wipes indicated they were somewhat dirty, the problem has been fixed.

In retrospect wrapping the cleaning wipes around a conductive metal might not be the best idea, I should probably have used a piece of cardboard or plastic just to be safe.

Plugging and replugging an unattached charging cord made volume button reappear and dock connector setting in airplay disappear, intermittantly. On the right track now. If this keeps up,I might just let the geniuses fool with this so they can mess it up, not me. Thanks for tip
