Q: Former Mobil Me User Unable to Collect Mail in Lion

I'm a refugee from Mobile Me who has just upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.7.4. When my computer-based Mac Mail program stopped collecting mail on Sunday (it still sends mail without issue) I researched suggestions on a fix without a success. Today I upgraded to Lion and I'm still unable to collect mail through Mac Mail. I have opened an iCloud account and can access my mail through the web-based program, and can also access my mail through my iPhone. But Mac Mail on my computer won't collect mail. I had assumed that the install would automatically configure my settings. I've tried checking and unchecking SSL and assigned ports 993 and 995; I've changed my account email addresses from @mac.com to @me.com (even though I hate @me.com) but nothing seems to work.

 

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be greatly appreciative.

    Open the iCloud icon in System Preferences. If you are signed in, sign out of iCloud.

    Go in Mail's preferences and delete the MMe account you manually created. Sign back into iCloud and it will create the account in Mail for you automatically.

    Have no really idea but since the @ME site/system went dead all your mail is probably gone. Apple gave all @ME and @Mac users months to move the mail off that server and from what I hears sent out many notices about the shutdown. Now that they shut it down it is to late.

    All mail collected through Saturday is safely stored on my computer, which pulled it off the server through the Mac Mail program. In any event, if you sign into Cloud, your mail is still there, even if you're a former Mobile Me user. So no, it's not too late for me or for others.

     

    The problem is collecting incoming mail since Sunday.

    GLEN - I'll give part of this a try. My MME account was deleted when I installed Lion. When I installed Lion, it converted the MME account to an iCloud POP account, which isn't collecting mail. I then went into System Preferences iCloud and asked it to synch my mail. This seems to have resulted in the creation of an iCloud IMAP account. This also isn't collecting mail. So I now have two accounts, one iCloud POP, and the other iCloud POP, both set to SSL Port 993, and neither of which collect mail.

     

    Once iCloud has finished synching calendars, I'll sign out of iCloud, sign back in, reboot my computer, say a prayer, and see if it works.

    As I said, sign out of iCloud and delete the other account from Mail. You can also delete any references to MMe or iCloud password for those accounts as well in KeyChain before signing back into iCloud.

    Which account do I delete? As I wrote above, Lion converted my MMe account to an iCloud POP account when I installed it, then added an iCloud IMAP account when I synched my mail and calendars.

    If you sign out of iCloud and still have an iCloud or MMe account in Mail, then delete the account or accounts. If you have concerns of losing messages, copy them to a local mailbox. That will not be affected.
