I have an iPhone 4 black 32 GB with ios 4.3.3 Model#MC605ZP with 4.10.01 firmware factory unlocked. Is it safe to upgrade to ios 5 via iTunes without locking my phone? Really need to upgrade. Thanks.

No. It would work with any SIM if it was unlocked by hacking or jailbreaking it. The only way to be sure it is factory unlocked is if you bought it directly from Apple and the receipt says it is unlocked, or if you bought it from a carrier and they unlocked it for you. If it was unlocked by hacking or jailbreaking then upgrading it will lock it to the original carrier in the best case, or permanently break the phone in the worst case.

There is no list of unlocked phones by serial number. Any phone could be locked or unlocked and it could change from locked to unlocked and keep the same serial number. The master list is kept by Apple, and ONLY Apple can tell you if it is legitimately unlocked. You will have to call them to find out.

If you are absolutely certain that it is legitimately unlocked you can safely upgrade it. If it doesn't work after upgrading then it was not unlocked legitimately.
