Why does my new 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 show a single core when activity monitor is open?

Every mac i've owned since I started using Activity Monitor showed each of the four cores that were active and what level they were at.

My iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 shows what appears to be a single core. My benchmarks are within normal parameters...

What's going on here?

Thanks.

I have a quad core 2.93 GHz i7 iMac, but do not see anything in Activity Monitor concerning one or more cores - can you send a screenshot of which window you are looking at and where the one processor is shown (and where the others should be shown)? I may be way off, but as far as I know, there is only one processor. Here is the info at the bottom of mine (top are processes):

It's normal.

From OS X: Activity Monitor shows one CPU Usage graph on systems with more than four cores

In Activity Monitor, the CPU Usage and history show a separate graph for each core if the Mac has four processor cores or less, but a single graph if there are more than four cores.

Your i7 has four cores plus another four "virtual cores". Activity Monitor considers that "more than four cores".
