Q: Creating Apple ID without credit card

Hi,

How can I create an Apple ID to use on Itunes without a credit card?  I want to get free apps for my ipod touch.

I don't want to go through giving my serial number just to contact Apple support.

I searched Google for an answer, and many people say an Apple ID can't be made without a credit

card but I know that's not true.  Many people already have.  The closest I've come to making an Apple ID

is clicking on a free app in Itunes, and then I start making an Apple ID account, I click "none" for payment,

and I enter address/name, and when I click next is says "Please contact Itunes support to complete

this transaction."

I read the Apple support article "HT2534" and it's not valid based on my experience, because

after I click "none" and fill in name/address, it says to contact "Itunes support" as mentioned above.

I won't tether my credit card information to my serial number and iPod because I want to read pdf

files on my iPod with privacy.

When I want to buy apps, I already have an iTunes gift card to make payment, but I can't use it

without an Apple ID.

Help.

Why don't you try following those instructions on a computer and see if it works... download iTunes and follow those instructions to the T and see if it actually works before you go giving that link again... That link has been given multiple times in different threads. IT DOES NOT WORK. Why do you think I'm repeating what the person a few posts back said, to use the "Redeem" link at the very bottom of iTunes on your computer for the "None" option to show up. Yes I was amazed myself when I previously tried (as in 45 mins ago) creating an account following the instructions from that link and it didn't work, seeing as how it's Apple's page and all and it was edited March 5th of this year or something.

Pencil. Paper. Try it. Amazing technology.

Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card

Step 3 is important, no matter whether you do this on a Mac or an iPad / iPhone:

Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must download and install a free application. ...

Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must download and install the free application by tapping Free followed by tapping Install App. ...

To summarize, you must first download a free app from the App Store. When you are asked to sign in with your Apple ID, select "Create new account". Accept the terms and conditions checkbox, then click Continue. After you enter all the requested personal data, click Continue.

When you are asked to select a payment method, select "None".

Wow... seriously? So reading comprehension not your thing huh? What'd I say about not handing people a CC in forever... you know, them little machines where you slide your card through, tech there is even more amazing than your pencil and paper, try it. Again the whole thing about cameras must have gone over your head too right? Yes, they'll just stand there with my CC in hand while furiously jotting down the number+exp date+CCV all the while not getting captured by the camera or seen by me because they're offsprings of Susan Storm, the Invisible Woman.

Right, like I said. Try it right now. Use iTunes and download a free app and create your ID that way, see if the None option shows when it asks for CC info. And I do mean try it now, because if you created your ID "before" as in a week ago, 2 weeks ago, things have changed. Also I live in the West Coast, maybe in your region it works but I doubt geography would have anything to do with it.

This worked for me using iTouch OS 6.1.3.

Settings > iCloud > Create new Apple ID > Confirm your email address via email inbox
Once you've confirmed; Back > iCloud > Payment Information > The Credit Card box should already be checked to 'None' If so, enter all your personal information and hit done in top right corner. C=

First, you have to put in the code to an itunes gift card, then you can press none. It worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you!

    Hey guys.

I'm seeing this topic is extremely old (about nine months now), but I had the same problem today and I managed to solve it successfully, so I'm writing to share how I did it. Mi case is very particular because I don't live in the States and I already had open an Apple ID in the @icloud.com domain. I did this because I didn't know that an Apple ID doesn't have to be an e-mail address in such domain. In fact, I discovered (too late if you ask me, because I already had bought about USD 50 in Apple content like apps and iBooks) that you can use your favorite e-mail address as your Apple ID. So, if you already have an Apple ID, like in my case, and you want to be able to use this new ID completely free of charge (no credit card information), follow these steps (and be ready to erase your device):

    1. First of all, you'll need a completely brand new Apple ID, which is the email address you use most of the times. You can go from your PC to https://appleid.apple.com/ to create it.

    2. Once you create your Apple ID, you need to go to check the e-mail address and confirm that this new Apple ID belongs to you.

    3. Now comes the hard part. When you created your first ID, you had one chance, and only one, to set it with absolutely none credit card information. It wont happen again when you try to associate a new Apple ID to your device. Why? It's something that I don't completely understand, but that's how it is. So.., What's next? Well... If you have another device which you use and you don't mind to erase it, erase it (format it completely) and proceed to configure it with the new Apple ID. Since this is the first time you'll use this new ID, you can set Payment Info to "None".

    4. Now... If you don't have a second device, it can still work in the device you have in your hands, but, sadly you have to erase it... And you'll lose all chat records and other information which you're not able to backup on the cloud. If that's not a problem to you, go for it. I did it and it worked for me. If you don't feel ready to lose that info, you better get a credit card and register it.

I did it (the format procedure), I have exactly the Apple ID I wanted to have, despite I already spent about USD 50 in the other one. I have two Apple IDs, let's see how they coexist.

I hope I can help somebody with this unnecessary long story... Bye...

This worked PERFECTLY! I already created an Apple ID from appleid.apple.com and couldn't set up a new one from the iTunes store because of it. I kept getting prompted for the payment option but the way you mentioned was the only way that helped. Thanks!
