Update that gets a FM radio for iPhone!

Well, no update on an existing phone can do that. It's a hardware issue.
I believe that Griffin make a FM radio that plugs into the iPhone and can be controlled through an app. But the latest reviews are not positive.
Be aware that FM reception on a phone can be very hit and miss......
I have misread S3 for S4.
Fact is MY GRIFFIN NAVIGATOR plugged to my iPhone 4 doesn't need a head phone connected to it to work.
Yes I've searched but found nothing (search results pertain to transmitters). But apparently there are existing gadgets that work with iPhone 5 as one individual mentioned so in the current thread it got deleted.
But none the less I understand the need of having an external antenna for FM reception.
Now for the others, have anyone ever used a gadget that would provide support of FM for iPhone 5? Or did you have to use an adaptator to make the whole thing work?

It uses the connector cable to the phone as an antenna. And, I suppose if hearing the radio isn't part of your expectation, the Griffin "works" without earphones.

You read incorrectly, confusing speculation about the only way to get FM reception on an iP5 with the existance of an actual device. The Griffin was the only FM receiver for iPhones ever available (in the USA anyway) and it is no longer in production and never released for the iP5. You still could use your Griffin along with a 30 pin to Lightning adaptor.
Thank you very much for your answer modular747.
But someone in this thread who got flammed for expressing his view in regards of features (or lack of features from his point of view) mentioned something about iFM support for iPhone 5 on June 17 (before his post got deleted).
Am I wrong to read sarcasm or disain in your last reply? I'm really just asking here.

I noticed that too, but wouldn't put too much value in that reply ... if you don't find it on the manufacturer's site, then I'd say it does not exist.
Yeah that makes sense.
Jeff, I don't know about the S4 but the S3 does use the earphone cable as an FM receive antenna.
Also, the lightning adapter for the iphone 5 is required to connect the Griffin ifm. Just too bad Griffin doesen't make the ifm anymore.
it would be better if apple had put a FM radio inside it
no matter some grams weights or a bit bigger
Thanks for refreshing a two month old thread without contributing anything new... 😕
Doesn't do any good to post here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I use fm radio a lot. I allready have ipad mini and i consider buying iphone but it has no fm radio.
First of all. i dont care about technical details. samsung has managed to include fm in his smartphone somehow, call it black box magic or not.
I live in eu so I'd like if iphone5 had fm radio considering the fact that its not recuired a lot of redesigning of hardware as i've heard chip is allready included. If this is not happening then at least i would like to hear some serious reasons why it was not possible to include fm radio to iphone and to have some kind of gadjet availeble that adds fm functionality. Or i am buying s4. What other choice do i have? I like to have one device that does every task. Not 10 seperate devices for 10 different tasks.
You're not adding anything new to this discussion just rehashing old points that have been gone over and over already. If an iPhone does not do what you want, you already worked out what to do - buy a phone that does. Simple.
Apple does not participate in these forums (which are user-to-user tech support forums) and you will therefore get no response to questions about why Apple does this or doesn't do that. The post immediately before yours gives the appropriate link if you want to feed back to Apple.
Nice, the S4 has FM, I'll have to have a look at this device. Thanks for the info.
My Galaxy S4 doesn't have an FM radio.
Only in the EU and I believe Asia does the Galaxy S3 and S4 have FM. Not Galaxy phone in the US has had it.
Not to threadjack but care to weigh in on this one: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4946851?answerId=22784327022#22784327022&ac_cid=tw123456#22784327
My understaning of CDMA phones is there is no "lock to carrier" as with a GSM phone, it is only that other CDMA carriers don't usually allow a "bring your own" phone. And I know of nothing that would make it illegal.
