Update that gets a FM radio for iPhone!
iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1
Well, no update on an existing phone can do that. It's a hardware issue.
I believe that Griffin make a FM radio that plugs into the iPhone and can be controlled through an app. But the latest reviews are not positive.
Be aware that FM reception on a phone can be very hit and miss......
The murderer (an American, Dr. W.C.Minor, Civil War hero, mass murderer and well spoken man) who at the time resided in the Broadmoor Asylum for the Criminally Insane, along with Professor James Murray produced a neat little book. Dr Minor used the Royal Mail in order to send his submissions to Professor Murray in Edinburgh (understandably the authorities were loath to allow him on the train) and the Professor sent him thank you notes using the same method.
This continued until the unfortunate Dr Minor died from complications arising from an autopeotomy he performed.
The Professor and the Madman is a wonderful book on the subject.
Yes indeed, as are many of Mr Winchesters books on many subjects
Sorry, but incorrect again. While born in Memphis, TN, I grew up in the Los Angeles area (Pacoima to be exact) and my speech patterns and vocabulary were heavily influenced by listening to Vin Scully broadcast Dodgers games. (Which I still do). Never acquired the Texas drawl or pronunciations.
who at the time resided in the Broadmoor Asylum for the Criminally Insane,
A minor claim to fame (and completely true): the main gates of the aforementioned Broadmoor are a scant ten minute stroll from my front door. I thought it wise to be close for future requirements....
The implication that the OED is not maintained is refuted by the history given here: http://public.oed.com/history-of-the-oed/. It remains the definition of the English Language.

They DO read here, or how else could they know whether to mark a post Recommends or whether Community Specialists need to reply to a stale Question?
- The Host reading here to run the forum (and even they don't read very much) and Apple engineers reading here for feedback are very different things.
- Apple recommends, as I understand it, will be based, in large, how many users agree with the answer.
- The Community Specialists get automatically forwarded posts from certain forums that have gone unanswered for 24 hours.
- Did you think they plowed through all the posts themselves?
- My bet is that they read more than you think, especially from troublemakers (myself? - am NOT causing trouble and am careful to conform comments to ToU)
- On the contrary... the tally method has yet to be demonstrated but Host/Specialist has... here's just one by tt2
[ Recommended = how do i remove duplicate songs on my ipod and ... | Apple Support Communities ]- I am ignorant of the methods and means of notification, but have seen CS responses as late as days of inattention.
- No
1. I had dinner a couple of months ago with the forum manager. I asked, and was told, they they don't have time to read the forum posts, given the number of posts per day. Hosts will read a post that has been reported as violating TOU, as you know, as you have reported posts. Beyond that they don't read the forum. Some engineers read posts, but usually because a level 7 or higher member has asked through the forum manager for an engineering review.
2. The new Apple Recommended is based on reviewing Helpful posts. Aided by the reputation of the poster and the importance of the subject. The exact method is not public, and will likely change from time to time.
3. I am familiar with the means of notification for Community Specialists, as is Meg. And Community Specialists are not support or engineering staff. All they are permitted to do is to post information from the Apple Knowledge Base.
Believe it or not, there actually are members of ASC who know more about how it works than you do.
[snicker] " autopeotomy " huh? It figures. Ah, civil discourse at last!
Well it also turns out that some of Dr Minors claims don't hold up to scrutiny very well, the "mass murderer" turns out to have only murdered one person for sure, others maybe. His overall judgement must be called into question not only by the fact that he died from a relatively simple surgical procedure he performed on his person (a peotomy) but that he even attempted to chop it off at all!
Publicity seeking Yank 🙂
Don't get to use that word much nowadays 🙂
What post (of yours?) concerning "Cowtown" am I mis-remembering? My bad. "T is for Texas, T is for Tennessee" - as Davy Crockett said upon his defeat for re-election to his Tennessee Congressional seat, "Since you have chosen to elect a man with a timber toe to succeed me, you may all go to **** and I will go to Texas."
With that, I retire from the field of battle

With respect, Sensei... as we say in the church, "you are preaching to the choir" - I have understood physics since middle school and have some experience in FM radio stations since the early '70's.
Wavelengths are different but I find it difficult to believe that the chip remains and the antenna length to receive doesn't from the known fact of Apple testing it for iPhone and its existence on the iPod as we speak.
If you know for a fact that the antenna does NOT exist in the iPhone (where the more expensive chip set does) - we can put this part of the issue to rest, to my satisfaction at least. I can read the signs (or lack of them) clearly - it is not about the tech.
It's easy to see that an FM antenna doesn't exist in the phone. Just go to any site that has done a breakdown of any iPhone.
I've never heard that Apple tested it, but I'd be happy to look at a reputable source.
What "more expensive chip set" are you talking about. There is ONE chip that provides WiFi and Bluetooth. It's a Broadcom BCM4334. Not a chipset. It also provides FM receiver and transmitter capability. I have the data sheet for it. It has 12 connections for the FM function; 2 for antenna, audio out, FM transmit and 8 for control (frequency selection). It's not more expensive than anything. There are competing chips; all of them provide the same functionality. There is no reputable engineer who would implement connections on a very dense circuit board for a function that won't be used. So, while I can't prove that it is not wired, into the phone, it is extremely unlikely that anyone would have gone to the trouble for a function that Apple did not plan to support.
Did you miss the part where I retired from the battlefield?
I admitted my ignorance (#3 above) and started the day with a plea for education (actually, a 'conversation starter' so that all could benefit from a reliable source, since nobody seems to take my word for anything - which I don't mind, but this is not my first rodeo)
On this 'conversation', I am - falling on my sword...

Yes, I did. With so many posts it's easy to miss one. Peace.
