Well, no update on an existing phone can do that. It's a hardware issue.

I believe that Griffin make a FM radio that plugs into the iPhone and can be controlled through an app. But the latest reviews are not positive.

Be aware that FM reception on a phone can be very hit and miss......

Again, if you did your research you would know that it uses the headphone cable as an antenna. One could use any 3.5mm jacked cable. Furthermore, strong FM signals DO NOT need an antenna. Try it yourself. Take your antenna off your stereo ( a newer one ) and tell me you don't receive the strong signals in your area ! Engineers, especially older ones aren't keeping up with the new technology. I'm a Federally Licensed Electronics Technician that works TODAY. We build underground communication systems in the Microwave range of the electromagnetic spectrum. These of course need an antenna because they are underground. The antennas are above ground and the frequency is so high that an antenna is necessary anyway. QED

IF you had done your research, which would have been as easy as just reading the thread you posted to, you would know that you he idea of using a headphone cord was rejected because most users have Bluetooth headset, which have no cord.

YOu have not said anything that hasn't been said in this thread already, many times, so there is nothing further to contribute.

Upset for you are yet again wrong. Until now everyone thought you were God. But now comes a very talented Federally Licensed Electronics Technician ( that deals with communication systems every day) where I can inequivocally state that you are incorrect.

Bluetooth or not the radio will still work. If the antenna is your argument then just run a 3.5mm cord. QED

[ For the formally uneducated, QED means quod erat demonstrandum - which means that which has been proven or shown. That no further discussion is required. We would write this at the end of a physics or mathematical proof. Do yourself a favor... Avoid the inevitable humiliation when you realize you're incorrect ].

Somebody is just a bit full of themselves.

I know I have not added anything to the discussion, only my vote that I would love to see this happening.

No, you haven't added a "vote" as Apple doesn't read here. If you want your preference seen by the people who can, if they chose, do something about it, use the feedback link. It's been given a few times in this thread.

Best of luck.

It's not about me, I've made more mistakes and stupid decisions than anyone. I simply wanted accurate information to be posted. I don't know you and certainly have nothing against you. I simply pointed out a fact about today's FM circuitry. Apple didn't implement that in iPhone by mistake or happenstance. Originally, the idea was to have live radio readily available on iPhone. However, a series of money driven events occurred that changed everything. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that. My radio at home has no antenna and receives a surprisingly high number of stations. The same for radios I see at friends' houses, even " Boom Boxes " etc. work fairly well without an antenna. It's just a fact about FM today. Years ago, you would have been 100% correct regarding the nature of FM and it's necessity for an antenna as opposed to AM. The fact is that FM radio in iPhone can and will work. That's all I wanted to say. Someone, I believe it was you, correctly pointed out that there is a iPhone Feedback form on their website. I kept a filled out copy of it in Safari and every time I saw it, sended it in. Then I'd swipe back having it ready to be sent the following day. I'd change the wording a bit every time I sended it. Although it's true I went to University, did well, studied and passed the Federal Electronics Technician test etc but I can be an idiot beyond comprehension. So my apologies if I came off crass or pretentious for that wasn't my intention. My motivation was purely for the sake of knowledge and to correct the incorrect. It's okay to be wrong. No one will think less of you. I'm often wrong and no better than you or anyone. People specialize these days as I'm sure you know. It doesn't matter who was right or wrong. Let's just get accurate information out here.

1) FM radio doesn't drain data plan. Mine is 2GB;

2) iHeart does not exist in every country. Not in mine, anyway;

3) TuneIn is a partially viable alternative to iHeart but don't have the stations i'd love to listen.

If Apple can pack an FM radio into a tiny iPod nano can do the same into an iPhone. But they can't sell both, then.

My Xperia has both FM radio and Tunein and, surprisingly, they don't clash. Sony sells both phones and walkman.

The idea is to listen to local airplay broadcasters. My Lifetime Fitness club broadcasts audio for the TV's over local FM channels. I should be able to dial this up easily with an IPhone.

Well, you can't, and you will never be able to. Instead buy a $5 (oops, $7) FM/Bluetooth headset: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Headphones-Kshion-Wireless-Function/dp/B01M235M OW/
