Well, no update on an existing phone can do that. It's a hardware issue.

I believe that Griffin make a FM radio that plugs into the iPhone and can be controlled through an app. But the latest reviews are not positive.

Be aware that FM reception on a phone can be very hit and miss......

So. it's "greedy" for Apple not to include FM radios in iPhones, Interesting concept. And, the truth is iPhone sales have gone UP dramatically in the last 12 months.

Actually, not including FM radios is a tactic to increase the average IQ of iPhone owners, and dump the whining morons on Android. Reading your post, they've succeeded brilliantly!

If you have an iPod touch, or an iPhone with a cheap data plan, and you aren't connected to a wifi hotspot, then you are limited to listening to what is in your local music library. If you're a photographer and your device is full of pictures and videos, or random other stuff that isn't music, there's not a lot of room for music. Having an FM radio inside the device isn't really that bad. If you think it won't work, don't use it. I just want to listen to music and talk shows that aren't on my device, when I go out and don't have an Internet connection.

So you have now bought a phone which has the features you actually want....

Well done! You're really starting to get the hang of this "buying things" business!

Well said. I am in amazement of all the folks who just want to complain that Company A's product doesn't include some feature they want and, from that observation, they conclude that Company A is obviously greedy and/or controlling and they will therefore never ever buy another product from Company A again. And they are mad about it, as if they are owed something.

I'm looking forward to the pencil sharpener option.

That's stupid. Mechanical pencils are the pencil of the future. The iPhone should have a lead storage compartment! 😉

But only if you can replenish the lead through the App Store. Otherwise Apple obviously doesn't understand the needs of its customers so my next phone will be Android-based.

This is probably one of the dumbest threads on this forum, but yet it never stops.

Facts:

  1. There is no FM radio built in to the iPhone.
  2. There will NEVER be an FM reciever built into the iPhone.

Not that I'm recommending an FM application for the iPhone but, to be accurate, the Broadcomm chips used in all the iPhones since the 3GS (the most recent is the Broadcomm BCM4334 in the iPhone 5) all have FM receiver capability. They are WiFi/BT/FM capable chips. On the iPhone and most other devices only the WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities are used. As has been stated previously in this thread one problem with FM reception is the need for an antenna. This need combined with the lack of much interest in the user community for FM reception has put this on the shelf where it will likely remain.
