It's all about the commercials and how much profit they can show. Actual quality content is low on the scale.

I can't remember the last time I listened to an actual radio station. I got so tired of radio and commercials that I got Satelite radio back in 2003. That's now gotten old and I've moved on to iTunes Radio and my music that I bring with me on my iPad to play in the car.

There's a reason many big names in talk radio have moved on from terrestrial radio to even doing podcasts. They don't have rules to play by and they can make more money then radio was willing to pay them.

    Radio is dead.

And even when they play decent music, they don't say what it is! Drives me bonkers!

Saying the name of the song and who it is by is wasting air time that they can use for commercials.

I've been always wondering why isn't FM radio available on my iPhone. As I saw, the SoC has the FM module (receiver and even transmitter!), so I do not understand why Apple does not let people use the FM radio. Could you please implement in the next update???

These long threads always end up going round in one big circle don't they?

You are NOT talking to apple.

Unfortuamtely Apple doesn't actively monitor those forums. If you want to make a suggestion you would be better off going on to leave a feedback.

    This is the feedback link:

I see you gave the first reply, and I gave the second. I wonder if we can persuade everybody else to start copy/pasting their replies in turn from those good old days?

modular, I too was looking for ability to tune to FM stations on my new iPhone (had a HTC that did have FM tuner).  I appreciate you "matter of fact" tone, but I don't mind using the iPhone supplied ear buds that came with my phone.  Apparently, in a pretty good number of other users, a true FM (non-data consuming) tuner on an iPhone is something many people would like to see, me included.  As for sound quality, I doubt anyone could tell the difference between a song played on an FM station vs a streaming (data consuming) site.  If the station desired is a talk radio station, sound quality would be even less of a factor; ie AM radio is still around for the reason alone.

+1 for the FM radio on iPhone, if it were for me.

I have a Nokia 701 which I would like to get rid of, but it still has some small edges over iPhone (for the use I make of, naturally). One of these is the FM Radio.

If I may, I would like to add the fact that I can use both radio and bluetooth simultaneously, so the matter is not in the technology.

With the radio too, iPhone would be the best all-around device on the market.
