the icloud icon does not appear on my imac, ipad or iphone . idisk is still there although I moved my account ti icloud

There is no Desktop icon if that's what you mean. Go to System Preferences>iCloud and log in with yur @me.com address.
As to the iDisk, assuming again you are talking about the Desktop icon, can you just drag it to the Trash? or are you talking about the Finder sidebar? You can remove it there in Finder Preferences>Sidebar.

thanks - ok for the desktop . But cannot get rid of idisk on the finder sidebar. ???
thanks Roger. There are no boxes to be ticked on Lion. Clicking on the iDisk icon in the sidebar, gives me the message: you are not subscribed to etc....
I will leave it at that for the moment
It may well be removed in the next update.
Aleppo, my Lion system shows checkboxes right where Roger said to look ("DEVICES" in the "Sidebar" panel of Finder Preferences).
thanks. the idisk icon appears in the favourite menu but not under the preferences menu of the sidebar.
