oh lol. I read another person's same question, dicovered I had to do it through Image Capture. Maybe because my iPhoto is version 6. .. yeh i'm still on the old iLife. 😟 BUT thanks for answering anyway! 🙂

Steps:

1. Open Image Capture

2. Navigate to Device

3. Click on button in the bottom left hand side (the arrow in the box symbol).

4. Choose "Open With..."

5. Select the option.

This might also be helpful:

I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.

Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

Nathan

set question to display dialog "Open iPhoto to import photos?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2

set answer to button returned of question

if answer is equal to "Yes" then

tell application "iPhoto" to activate

end if

I'm not sure I understand what is happening for you. You say it only runs when you open "the app". Are you referring to the app that you saved from the script?

If so, did you set Image Capture to open the app when you plug in your phone or camera?

I did notice that sometimes the dialog box pops up in the background if you are in fullscreen mode in another app. Maybe switch out of your full screen app and you will see the dialog box again.

Unfortunately this is broken. iPhoto come up in spite of the setting in iPhoto -> Preferences -> General -> Connecting camera opens:

User uploaded file

And reporting bugs to Apple isn't always a productive use of time. (rarely get fixed)

I am so annoyed by the goofy "feature" that I would prefer that nothing EVER came up for ANY camera at this point. The "feature" has rubbed through the skin at this point.
