Lion os x install

First off, it couldn't be a Lion disc because Lion never came on DVD. That aside, you cannot use the discs that shipped with one Mac on another Mac.

There is NO Lion install disc. All Mac's that came with Lion pre-Installed also did not come with any DVD discs. So whatever you are loading into your DVD drive is not a Lion install DVD.

If that's so you have the only Mac that ever shipped with a Lion DVD.

More likely it did not ship with it and someone created a DVD for install purposes.

I did wonder why you didn't get the "this disc is not for this computer" message.

So what's happening with the install... is there any movement at all?

Please take a picture of the disc with your phone and post it.

Reboot the computer and hold down the Option/alt key. That will bring up the one time Boot menu screen. Select the Lion install DVD you have as the Boot device.

If it hang after that, Or if that DVD does not appear on that Boot menu screen the it is not a true Lion install DVD.

If someone created that DVD and they did it after buying and downloading Lion from the Mac App Store and it does boot to the Lion recovery system screen (that is where you will have a screen that has 4 options on it. One of them being Reinstall Mac OS X) it is more then likely tied to the Apple ID of whoever made that DVD.

If they made it from the Lion download from a Mac that came with Lion Pre-Installed it more then likely will not boot on your Mac. Unless your Mac is exactly the same as the one it was made on.

That is what you may be seeing now. The install should of started by now with a progress screen displayed.

In any event if you want Lion on your Mac you should login to the Mac App Store using YOUR Apple ID and Password and spend the $29 it costs. What you are doing now is stealing software (Unless your Mac is exactly the same as the one that DVD was made on and your Mac came with Lion Pre-Installed)

If your Mac originally came with Lion you do not need that DVD. Post back if that is the case.

Lion did not come out until June of 2011. So you do not have a Lion Install DVD. You do have either a Leopard or Snow Leopard install DVD (I'm not up on the dates of OS releases but more then likely it is a Leopard DVD).

That you stated it was a Lion install DVD that is what had everyone scratching their heads as There Are NO Lion Install DVDs supplied by Apple.

Now as to yor problem why are you trying to Reinstall the OS.

Those are not Lion discs, but that's irrelevant to your original question.

You wouldn't have gotten as far as you did with the installation if you were trying to install on a different model. I'm not sure how far you did get. I'd expect the total installation time to be at least 30 minutes. If you saw a message that the installation was finished, and then the system hung while trying to reboot, that's probably OK. Try to boot from the internal drive.

With respect, no, it did not. You seem to be using the term "Lion" as a synonym for "Mac OS X." It refers to the current version of Mac OS X, which was released long after your MBP shipped.

Now if you bought the MBP second-hand, it may be that the previous owner had installed Lion on it. But not from those discs.

Again I ask Why Are You Re-Installing the OS.

No not one bit. If Lion came out in 2011 and your Mac is from 2009 and you have the original discs that came with the computer how could that OS X install DVD be for Lion.

At some point you or someone else upgrade your Mac from whatever version of OS X it had on it to OS X Lion.

To reinstall Lion boot the computer and at the chime hold down the Command+r keys. That will boot you to the the Lion Recovery HD partition. From where you can reinstall Lion.
