mountain lion airplay requirements

Hi,

I am thinking about buying an Apple TV, but I am not sure if Mountain Lion will support airplay mirroring on my mac (I have an early 2008 MBP).

Do you have any informaion about this?

Airplay mirroring would be the main reason for me to buy an Apple TV, and the lack of it would be a deal-breaker.

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

That's good but from my experience and others there is a lot of lag and other things that push it back.

What are you running it on?

I may give it a shot. Cheaper than a new Mac anyway 😀

I think it may also be interesting to wait for user experience with Airplay capable Macs - I suspect some will find it poor due to their LAN performance.

You do make a good point regarding the LAN performance. iPad mirroring works fine for me, but there could be a difference on how each image transfers over the network

I think processing power and LAN are both rate limiting factors.

Now I suspect my Mac Pro from 2008 would probably have a reasonable stab at Airplay via Airparrot, I may be wrong.

The 2006 Macbook....doubtful.

Despite being an Apple fan (we all are I guess) and stating the obvious, Apple clearly knows that Airplay is one of the killer features contained within Mountain Lion and is using it as an opportunity to 'encourage' folks with computers older than 18 mos. to buy new gear. I very much doubt that there was a hardware innovation in later versions of its computers that is required to make Airplay mirroring work.

I agree w/ zoshe, it's a matter of time before a jailbroke solution is available.
