when i connect my ipod to my computer, it works like it is suposed to (im able to sync and put music on it) but when i disconnect it turns off and it is tottally unresponsive. when i plug it back in, it turns on. i think the ploblen is the click wheel because the hold button does work. btw, i've tried reseting it but it didnt help.

Sounds like your battery is shot and in need of a replacement.  That would explain why the iPod will no longer stay powered up on its own as the battery no longer has the ability to hold a charge.
