Reinstalling OS X Lion lost ilife

If you just do a re-install (from Command-R, booting into the Recovery partition) you shouldn't lose anything. If you want to wipe your hard drive and do a fresh install, first make sure that you have a back-up - preferably using Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner.

Which are you trying to do? Just re-install Lion? Or wipe your hard drive and re-install Lion?

I'm unclear about why you want to re-install... are you having problems?

Doing a Reintall is a fairly drastic approach... Why not just delete the programs You have installed that you no longer require.

OK, if you want to start all over again, here's what to do:

1. Back everything up to an external drive either using Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner (while you may want to 'lose' some stuff, you don't want to lose 'everything');
2. Restart or turn on your computer and hold down the Command and R keys - you will boot to your Lion recovery partition;
3. Select Disk Utility and then select your hard drive; erase the hard drive selecting one GUID partition and "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format;
4. after the disk has been formatted, re-install Lion. This takes place over the Internet, so it may take some time...
5. Reboot. If you don't have the iLife apps installed (and you won't) follow steve626's instructions.

Now you'll be running a 'clean' system and you can begin the reinstallation of whatever apps you want.

I know that you and I will likely disagree on this, but... (at the behest of jwosten) I recommend using AppDelete to clear out most apps that are not from the App Store or that don't come with a great unistaller (like the Adobe apps for instance). It really does get rid of a lot of files associated with apps. Linc Davis calls it 'very dangerous' but jwosten recommended it to me and I've been using it for about a month now with no problems.

If the OP doesn't want to re-install from scratch (as he/she seems to want), I would follow your directions with apps purchased from the App Store or those that have uninstallers. For the rest, I would recommend AppDelete - I think I paid about $8 for it.

I would bet that there are hundreds of Mac manuals in Spanish. Do you have access to a Spanish Amazon.com? Try searching for manuals that are for those new to the Macintosh. I'll bet that there are quite a few available.

Might sound stupid but how do I Back everything up to an external drive either using Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner ? I just purchased a second hand mac so dont have any of my aps or anything on it just cant acsess ilife because they where issued to another aplple ID ao can i just wipe it and start again like those instructions say? like ive said ive just got it so no documents or anything on it so do i need to back up any files and if so how ?

i havent seen any spanish amazon...ever...im living in colombia and theres no amazon

If you've no documents or other data that you want to keep on the MBP, there's no reaon to do a back-up. Just boot from the Recovery partion (Command-D on start-up), erase the drive, and reinstall Lion. Nice fresh system to start with.
