Q: I tunes won't sync

Hi,

I've started to get problems syncing iTunes with my iPhone, it started off with an error message 'I tunes has encountered a problem and need to close' both my phone and I tunes weren't the latest updates so I updated both hoping to solve the problem but it didn't, I then followed advise and uninstalled iTunes and all it's components and reinstalled but no luck, I tried a few more times uninstalling and re-installing but the same error keeps happening, another error message 'unable to sync, internal device error' occasionally comes up to. I have tried loading I tunes in safe mode but no luck. I also noticed that ITunes was running slowly so I cleaned pc up (running windows xp) but to no avail.

Any help would be great as I'm out of ideas and getting frustrated that I can't sync anymore.

Thanks in advance for any help

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

As this is the first post one sees from Google on this topic, and I've just had a similar problem (Internal device error, occurring when syncing apps) and read all the other posts on the topic, here's my summary reply.

    1) It can be many, many different things. Some other threads have a number of pretty obscure things that could work, but are unlikely. (Many also end without having solved the original problem!)

    2) In my case, 'internal device error' didn't appear to be caused by an internal device error, it seemed to be caused by the device disconnecting. A case of a poor error message, in that case. (Console messages simply said "Device ... detached." and "Unexpected connection closure...".)

If you have this problem, start the troubleshooting with the connection. If a cabled connection, reseat the cable on both ends, try it in a different USB slot, replace the cable. On windows, try the trick with the USB power settings (gadzooks).

    Good luck.

I had this problem and resolved it by:

    1.  Reset the iPad (hold down home and off buttons ten seconds then wait until Apple logo appears) - the device then restarts and you've lost nothing.

    2.  Reboot your Mac - shut down, unplug power lead and leave for ten seconds before starting up again.

When Mac is back to normal sync again.

This worked for me - can't guarantee it will for you :-)
