Can I plug a wired connection into the extended base station?

I have a wired device that simply cannot be wired into the primary AirPort Extreme base station. Can I setup an extended base station and plug the device into it? Or does the extension only work for wireless devices? Simple question perhaps, but I really haven't found the answer to this question in all my searching. Thanks.

Edit....the answer assumes that your "wired" device is an Ethernet device.

If you are referring to the USB port on the extended device, a compatible printer will work on an AirPort Express.....and a compatible printer and hard drive will work on the AirPort Extreme.
