First is power off/on, if that doesn't help, then a reset, holding the sleep/wake and power button together until you see the Apple logo then release, ignore the slide to power off if it appears. This will not affect your data. If that doesnt' work, then you need to restore the phone. First a restore from a backup, then if necessary a restore as a new device. Restore will delete all data from phone, but if you use a backup you will get that back. However, you need to make sure your contacts/calendar are synced to a supported application.
