is netscape supported?

1. I thought Netscape was dead. Is it or not and if it's alive what's the latest version and how old is that?

I have an ibook pc (non Intel) 10.4.11 os.

2. Firefox is not supported nor is Safari on my old machine.

Is Firefox still the most secure browser?

Any answers or opinions or advice thankfully received.

Netscape is long, long gone. Even Internet Explorer for Mac is very, very old.

I still use Firefox despite all the dire warnings they send me (I have yet to see indication of evildoers on my computer). Alternatively look at TenFourFox or Camino. I am sure there are others too.

You can use Safari too. Probably not the latest but with running Tiger OS you will have to get used to not running the latest. If you're freaking out about that then you need to start shopping for a much newer computer. Tiger OS is about getting to the stage where if you walk into an Apple Store almost nobody will even remember it except in a history lesson.

Thanks for that.

I do run Safari latest as my preferred browser but assumed Firefox was more secure.

fyi - within a secure financial site, I can read the secure messages sent by the company with safari but not with firefox.

the UK government secure tax site accepts safari

My conclusion is that safari is still good though it seems to be crashing more often these days with me.

Thank you for your reply.

I have been freaking out about getting a new mac for a very long time. And now the latest have got me salivating big time. Trouble is I resent paying the unnecessary tax in Mexico plus the cheat mark up and bad service which makes buying a mac in Mexico an unpleasant experience.

So I am looking for an excuse to visit the US for a nice break and to buy at US prices less tax. Doesn't matter if the weekend or week costs me a fortune on top. That's a different equation.

Camino is still under continued development, so in some respects it's as "grown up" as Firefox. However, to be backward compatible means it cannot support all the features Firefox can support.

However, you're original question was just asking about a compatible browser with the version of OS X your are running and on old hardware. The versions of Netscape and Camino I referenced will meet the needs you outlined.
