input source spontaneously changes!

I use the Dvorak keyboard setup as my input source, and never change it. Recently my machine has started spontaneously switching back to the standard U.S. keyboard -- distracting, to say the least, when I suddenly get weird windows opening or gibberish appearing in documents. This has happened in both Mail and Mellel (a 3rd-party word processor) so far. I can't find anything about this problem in the forums; does anyone know how to re-stabilize my choice, or how to investigate it further? Thanks,

Have you tried going into "system preferences", "keyboard", then "input sources" and checking what input is selected and wether the "use same one in all documents" button is selected?

I'm still in Snow Leopard, and that's in Language & Text > Input Sources, but yes, the "Use the same one in all documents" button in "input sources options" is selected. (I also have the command-space and option-command-space keyboard shortcuts to switch input sources deselected, so I'm not accidentally switching them myself without realizing it.) Thanks, though.

Try deleting the Dvorak Keyboard from the input list and then re-pairing it as an input device. Also there have been instances where rechargable batteries, even fully charged, don't have enough voltage to perform properly.

Thanks, I've deleted Dvorak as a source, restarted, and re-selected it. We'll see what happens. I'm fairly certain this is tied to Mellel, as I just upgraded it and the keyboard changes every single time I'm working in it. Unfortunately I've been trying to contact them for months about another problem but they won't respond -- "they never call, they never write -- oy!" so I don't have much hope. Next step is probably to uninstall Mellel and see if that fixes the problem....

Well, I'm replying to an old post here, but something similar has happened to me a few times. I use a Swiss-German keyboard as input device with UK English language settings in documents. On a few occasions, I have logged in and found that my input device is a US keyboard (and only this). I am not quite sure if this only happens after upgrades. I am using Max OS X 10.9.4, and I couldn't find any similar reports part from this old one.

The keyboard is connected to my iMac by a USB cable.

I resolved a similar keyboard-layout-shifting problem described in another thread, for which I cannot paste the URL (thanks, Apple!). Search on my name or the thread title, I guess: "Opening Microsoft Word in 10.9.4 changes my keyboard setting" — hope that helps!
