Mar 7, 2013 7:24 PM in response to goos1by Paulokote,What happened to me ! Was this...
I took my Apple tv to a presentation to use it with my iPad at the office but I forgot the remote there.
Later that afternoon, I tried to connect the Apple TV to a network but it wasn't configured in my Apple TV so I needed the remote to make it work!. I thought in some kind of an App to control the Apple TV and downloaded the one called Remote by apple, then I realized that it needs to be connected to the same network as the Apple TV to make it work!
I said "I'm screwed!"
But after a few minutes I remembered that I connected the Apple TV to my iPhone 4S using it as a hot-spot a few days ago!
So I turned on my iPhone's hot-spot and the Apple TV remembered the network automatically, then, I connected my iPad to the same network... The App It worked!
I changed the configuration to set up the new network, and the App stopped working, cause the AppleTV was in a different network now. I just changed my iPad to the other network and it worked again.
Now that I have the App! Who needs a stupid remote anyway??

Mar 27, 2013 9:21 PM in response to goos1by casualmacuser,I had the same problem when our wifi had to be reset...Our Apple TV would not pair with the Remote App and I didn't have my actual remote anymore. The only way I was able to fix it was by plugging my apple tv into my router via ethernet cable. That put my Apple TV on the same network as my iPhone and I was then able to link it all onto the same network so I could simply use my iPhone to control it again...hope this helps!

May 4, 2013 6:23 PM in response to Sebdeuxby TBreen,A detailed explanation of this would be appreciated. I lost my apple tv remote and am trying to get it to work. Exactly how did you use your bluetooth keyboard? I was able to turn on the apple TV by plugging it in and the first prompt is about re-setting the date and time (nothing about bluetooth). Because I do not have the remote, I cannot moved past this screen to set up my phone or keyboard.
It is rather furstrating and I think this is by design.

Sep 3, 2013 3:02 PM in response to TBreenby Drew Rodriguez,I just restored my Apple TV and used my bluetooth keyboard to set it up. It can be done and runs you through a simple pairing process when you first connect it.

Sep 3, 2013 4:07 PM in response to vazandrewby Drew Rodriguez,I don't know how much clearer I can be. I do not have an Apple TV remote in my home. I just turned on my Apple Bluetooth keyboard while sitting in front of my freshly restored (with no remote paired to it or any Internet connectivity either) Apple TV. As soon as I turned the keyboard on, the Apple TV popped up with a 4 digit combo to enter on the keyboard and press Enter. Done and done. Keyboard paired and used successfully in lieu of a remote.

Sep 3, 2013 7:59 PM in response to goos1by nfrizzo,I just moved to Canada from Australia and brought an apple tv but forgot the remote control! After a bit of playing around i managed to get my iPad to control the apple tv.
Firstly i plugged the apple tv into the power outlet and tv. The apple tv produced a picture on the tv but i could not control it with the iPad.
Secondly i plugged an ethernet cable from the modem into the apple tv. The iPad is connected to the same network via wifi.
The apple tv then showed up on the remote app and i was able to control the apple tv. No Probs.
In Australia, this iPad had previously been used as a remote for this apple tv using the remote app available on the app store, so i am not sure if it all worked only because of the history of a hook up there!!

Sep 4, 2013 7:55 PM in response to Drew Rodriguezby Lady_Z,I lost my remote. I have a wireless keyboard.
I first unplugged then replugged my apple tv. The main app page appeared but b/c my keyboard is not synced, I could not do anything.
Then I unplugged my wireless and then unplugged my apple tv and replugged in. Now it has reset, but is stuck on setting the time/date.
I think you got lucky by getting to that keyboard page.
