My ipod touch was stolen. "Find My Iphone" is a joke.

I installed and enabled icloud when i got daughter an ipod touch. It was stolen but because it was locked with a security code it is always "offline". It has been two weeks and it has yet to find it or go online. When it happened I figured it would be okay and it would be found. I sent it a message offering a reward but since it is "offline" it doesn't even matter. Apple has no way to actually report your ipod stolen. You can remove it from your devices but that's about it. You can search the whole Apple site and there is no actual answer to how to report it stolen nor does it say anywhere that if you have your device locked the chances of the "find my iphone" actually working is zip. I realize Apple is not the police and I have reported it to them but Apple should be more helpful and they have a certain responsibility to inform customers and come up with a better solution. I am upset at the thief but also at Apple.

If it was locked, then the thief cannot put the device online unless he/she wipes the device. If the device is wiped then you will not be able to find it.

Apple is in no way responsible for the theft nor its recovery. Apple provided tools with limited use that you did not fully understand. Your daughter is responsible for its loss, no one else. If you failed to understand the limitation of the tools provided by Apple, then that's on your back.

That is quite incorrect, a locked device can be located by "find my phone". The reason that your device is denoted as off-line, is because either it is switched off, the battery is dead or it is unable to connect to a network to be detected. Apple have not deceived you.

On the "find my mac" page, you can choose 1) play noise, 2) lock, or 3) erase. if you choose lock, it asks if you are sure you want to lock because a locked computer can't be erased, which sounds good. However,on the apple site (which we found later) it says "You can use Find My Mac to remotely lock your Mac with a passcode. You can also display a custom message on its screen. If you lock your Mac, you won’t be able to track it." Sure wish they'd mentioned that on the "Find" site...along with the idea that you cannot UNDO this decision from the same "Find"page you're working on as it must happen in person. It basically means because we locked it, we will not be able to find it now. I hold Apple accountable for the omissions of valuable information and misleading format. Now we have to purchase another computer...perhaps we'll go back to PC... SO disappointed and angry. If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support
