Is the wireless part of the router turned on?
Is the wireless in your Macbook turned on?
If your wireless is turned on, then detect the router on your wireless then enter the password if you have one.

i am able to connect to the wireless router with both my ipad and pc - but not my macbook
there is no password
the error message that pops up is "a connection timeout occurred"
Does your macbook detect it?
Have a look at this link to see if it sorts it out for you. If not, check back and let's see if we can get you wireless.

You really need to login to the router and set a password on the Wireles Networking side of it. Otherwise every one around you can connectr to it and use your 3G Data connection which may make you bill very large.
Always set a password on the Wireless connection.
As per suggestion by Shootist007 - password protect your wireless connection.
Not sure how it is where you are, but in Canada, we don't have any limits on how much data we use or download.
In any event, it's still a good idea to have a password to limit how many devices are connected to your router.
Which is probably one of the reason why you're getting time outs. Too many devices connected to your router.
