Double clicking problem!?

I have a first generation 3.1 iPhone and every time I double click the home button my contacts appear, but I wanted the recent apps I used to appear on the bottom...I went into General-Home and clicked Phone Favourites then I double clicked the home button and it again brought me to my contacts...ugh it's driving me crazy! is there a way to fix it?
