Is it possible to listen to music and do other things on the new IPad
iPad, iOS 5.1.1
Unlock the iPad if it is locked.
Locate and tap the "Music" app icon.
Select some music from your collection (an album, a playlist, whatever) and start it playing at a comfortable volume.
Push the home button.
The music should still be playing.
Select another application and start it.
The music should still be playing.

Yes, you can do many other things while listening to music. There may be some things you can't do at the same time, such as listening to a podcast. I'm not sure whether a game with sound could prevent the music from playing, but the ones I have on hand can coexist with music playback. It seems that would be a very annoying combination for some games.
