boots not past the Apple page

This is about my G4 PowerBook using Tiger 10.4.11. No idea what the model number is or where to find it.

The PB boots up, but never gets past the introduction window, the one with the initial Apple Logo; I hear the bong. The little spinning ball just spins away.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

If the gears turning its still trying to load the os. Try booting off of a system disk and then running disk utility. If you don't have a system disk handy, boot holding down ⌘-s, for single user mode. At the command prompt type "diskutil verifyVolumne /". After that type "diskutil verifyPermissions /". Usually you can get the GUI to boot after running those two commands.
