Q: Lost file sharing
- I had file sharing working between my iMac and Macbook. I was able to send a large pdf file from the Macbk to the iMac. Afterward the Sharing listing completely disappeared from the Macbk Finder, where it lists Devices, Places, etc. That Sharing list still appears on the iMac's Finder, but no longer includes the Macbk in the share listing. I tried unchecking the 3 boxes under Sharing in the Macbk Preferences, quitting the Finder, relaunching it, checking them again, quitting it, and relaunching it. No change. The Sharing is completely absent from the Macbk Finder. Only Devices, Places, and Search For appear.
- I went to the Apple Store and had a Genius check my Macbk. When I started it up, the Sharing list was back and listed several shared files that were available on the store's system. The Genius ran a diagnosis and said my Macbk is perfect, and I should shut down my iMac for 15 seconds, then restart it and that should allow the sharing to be re-established. I did so but nothing changed. The iMac Finder had a Sharing list but did not see the Macbk, and the Sharing list was still missing on the Macbk Finder.
- I have everything on the Share System Preference of both machines set to appropriate settings. I have the Finder Preference for Sharing checked all 3 boxes on both machines. Neither machine sees the other, and the Macbk Finder does not even have the Sharing list on it, but it appears at the Apple store. Also, there are several other shared computers in my building which are listed on the iMac and were listed before on the Macbk, before the listing cmpletely disappeared.
- I cannot make any sense of this, and have run out of things to try. Is there some other way to access sharing when the list will not appear? Does anyone have any suggestion for a solution to this? I am frustrated and have no idea of anything else to do. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
