unfortunately, i've carefullly gone through all of those steps twice now to no avail. and even after taking a screenshot with my phone, it still is not found when reconnected as a camera. this would lead me to beleive that it was a problem with the usb port/s (the same problem occurs in all six of mine), but then why on earth would the ipad work fine it doesnt seem to make any sense atall

If you are using a USB hub to connect the devices, don't.


If you have a desktop or tower computer and are using USB ports on the front, switch to ports on the back (front ports are usually an internal hub).


Try different cables.


Try cleaning the dock connector on the device. Lint can get in and short pins together. A dry toothbrush is a good tool.
