why do my texts sometimes go green

I'm confused why do my messages to other iphone users sometimes go blue and sometimes go green. Is it because they are out of signal ie could be abroad?. I thought this was the case but i've sent a few the last few days to somone who's abroad in egypt and there still blue ???😕

Sorry, I forgot to add that if the traffic through the Apple servers is very heavy or they are down or unable to connect with the receiving iDevice, messages to other iPhone users can ben sent through SMS if you have this functionality selected in Settings, iMessage. If you do not want this to happen possibly to avoid carrier chargers, you can disable this possibility in Settings, iMessage.

Blue is when the message is sent as an iMessage using your cellular data connection or Wifi through Apple servers. This normally requires the other person to have an iDevice with iMessage enabled. There is no charge for blue iMessages.

Green is when the message is sent as an SMS through the carrier's phone systems. Unless you have unlimited SMS in your plan, you will normally be charged for green SMS. These can ben sent to any type of cell phone.

Hope this clarifies the issue.
