After upgrade to Lion, iPhone won't charge after Mac goes to sleep

I did a clean install of Lion, and have run Software Update. There are no problems with the system, but I noticed that when I plug the iPhone in to the Mac, it won't charge when the Mac goes to sleep.

The iPhone gives the normal charging tone when it gets plugged in, and if I l press the Home button, it displays the charging screen. If I select Sleep from the Apple menu, the Mac goes to sleep and the screen on the iPhone blinks on as if not plugged in, showing the normal unlock screen. When I wake the Mac, the phone beeps and shows the charging screen.

Is there a setting I can change to get the iPhone to continue charging after the Mac goes to sleep?

I think this is the normal behavior, as sleep means minimum activity. Shall I understand you lost your charger and charging via mac USB is your only choice?

This behavior is new in my experience, having been on Snow Leopard. I've always just plugged the iPhone into my keyboard since it is very convenient, and it has always charged overnight, even while the Mac slept. So this is not normal behavior for my system.

My question is, has this changed in Lion?

I do not remember any Mac 0S X which charged the phone when on sleep. Frankly, I have not identified a clear statement whether this is normal or not, to me is normal.

What can I tell you? I've been using the same setup since the original iPhone. Maybe sleep behavior in Lion has changed.
