Can't Boot From CD After HD Replacement

Hi,

I was having trouble with my 15" mac book pro. Its a 2008 and was running OS 10.5.

When I was booting up I got the apple logo but it had blue lines through it. After a minute or so I would then get the message that I needed to restart, with the screen filled with blue lines.

I tried to boot from the install CD but I didn't get the options to back up, only to erase the HD.

I took it to the Genius Bar and they told me the HD was shot. They managed to get some of the data off it but told me it needed to be replaced.

I have just installed a WD 320GB but now I get the same issue on start up with the apple logo with the blue lines through it but now I can't boot or get access to the CD.

I have tried trying to boot using C, ALT and apple keys.

Starting to think it wasn't a HD problem after all!?

Any pointer greatly appreciated.

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5)

After hours and hours of trying, finally it just worked!

Managed to get access to the CD. This was only done when the boot up apple logo didn't have lines through it.

I then erased the disk and tried to install the new OSX. It crashed a couple of times but I have now managed to get the mac working. I haven't rebooted it yet but I'm hoping everything will be ok when I do!

If this happens to anyone else, I must have started and re-started about 60 times before I finally managed to get access to the CD.
