Open disk utility from the spotlight. Select the drive that you want to delete( Macintosh HD I guess). Choose the 2nd option i.e. erase and erase it. Here is a screenshot.
Why do you want to erase your Internal Hard Drive?
Are you selling the iMac or just wanting to start fresh?
If you are selling it, see > MacTalk - Preparing Your Old Mac for Sale
If you are having problems with OS X, it might be easier to fix OS X instead of Erasing everything and starting over. see > Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
I can not updated snow leopard 10.6.3 the insatall dvd quicks out every time same with another dvds, i can not read any dvd. Rightnow have Leopard 10.5.8. I have a problem reading dvds.
Thank you
the name of my hard drive is DASHBOARD instead of MACINTOSH HD, may be this is a problem to erase?.
Can i change the name to macintoshh HD?
Thankks
The Name of the drive shouldn't affect it's ability to be erased.
To rename it, hold control and click on the hard drive icon on the desktop, and a menu should appear.
Click 'Get Info'
There should be a section labeled 'Name & Extension', you can change the name there.
1. Reset the PRAM > Resetting your Mac's PRAM
2. Try cleaning the DVD drive with a Lens Cleaning Disc.
3. Check the Snow Leopard DVD, is it cleal and scratch free?
4. Make sure that you have a clean and stratch free install DVD.
5. Only a white Retail Snow Leopard Install DVD will work with your iMac.
(a gray system DVD will only work for the iMac that it came with)

FYI, you cannot erase the hard drive you are booted from.
You would need to boot from an external drive or another partition in order to erase your drive.
