does anyone know a keyboard shortcut to open the Applications folder (displayed below - in grid form)?
It'd be great to quickly type in a command to open the grid, then type the first few letters of any given application to select it.

With a Finder window in the front, press the Shift, Command, and A keys.

doesn't look as neat as opening the grid, but that will do the job: )
There's an even faster way, though it still won't get you the grid.
Just type the hotkey for spotlight (probably 'command-space' unless you've changed it), and type the first few letters of the app and hit return.
e.g. the sequence
'command-space' then type 'term' and hit 'return' will open Terminal faster than you can blink an eye!
