Can you upgrade memory on a iPhone 4S

Not possible. Either delete some apps/music/videos/etc

to free up space or sell your 16G and purchase a 32G.

When connected to iTunes, how much space does it show

is taken up by 'Other'? If more than .5G or so, try to restore

your iPhone as that should clear up some of the space in

'Other'.

Thank you for something besides "no". These things ARE totally doable IF you have the right skills and equipment. That might not be practical of course.

I'm seeing after market "bare" boards for about $10.00. These looks to have all the chips except the CPU & RAM. Complete used boards seem to be priced in the $200.00 - $300.00 range.

The CPUs & larger chips appear to have an array of contacts or solder "dots" on the back. Can anyone here explain the soldering process used to attach these in the first place? Several of the chips are surface mounted & soldered using an oven or selective heat application of some sort. The bigger chips don't look like they would work like that.

Do they heat up the chip envelope which then melts the solder or something. Or is the chip glued on or mechanically attached in some other way?

My guess is that this can be done, BUT, it is not cost effective to build up one board for my personal phone due to sunk one time tooling costs.

I guess plan B is to see if I can get a refurb / trade up or something at the Apple Store.
