How to get iPad to see iTunes Shared libraries on pc

I have a Windows 7 PC with iTunes.

Home Sharing is enabled.

Preferences/Sharing has 'Share my library on my local network' checked.

Preferences/Sharing Status shows 'On, no users connected'.

On the iPad under Genera/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync it shows

'Sync will resume when 'RWDESKTOP-HP' is available.

Then it shows that same device name and under that it

lists 'Apps and Photos'.

The Windows PC is up, running and connected to the same Wi-Fi as the iPad.

What do I need to change to get the iPad to see my shared libraries on my PC?

Thanks!

1st off make sure the apple I'd used for home sharing is the same on iPad and pc. Make sure home sharing is on under music and videos in the settings(iPad) and using the same apple I'd even if it's not ur Id in some family cases. Then under music(iPad) on the bottom hit more. The computer should be there. I'm not sure if iTunes has to be up on the computer or not, but it should be there.

Clarifying more for other if they have this ? I figured it out by trial and error. The "family computer" want to be shared to even multiple devices.....the apple computer is under dads iTunes account, then the wife's phone and brothers iPad and or other MacBook, must have home sharing on with 1 apple I'd. So on say the iPad....put in (dads) apple I'd under home sharing and password. The same goes for any other device in your house on the network. All the library's then can be accessed under iTunes on the left(computer) or music app by clicking more at the bottom(iPad,pod, phone).

OK, I believe it is the Apple ID.

But I'm not understaning something here.

My PC with iTunes has all of my music. It is also where I keep all my photos.

So the iTunes there is associated with my e-mail.

So the Apple ID is 'randyw57' (for example. It's actually my yahoo e-mail id.)

The iPad we have now belongs to my wife.

So it is set up with her Apple ID - 'wife'.

In order for the iPad to AirPlay protected movies to Apple TV the Apple ID of the

iPad and Apple TV have to match. So Apple TV is set to 'wife'.

Now we are thinking about getting another iPad.

So if that iPad is associatted with yet another Apple ID (2nd-iPad) then I can't Home Share with it.

And I wouldn't be able to AirPlay from 2nd-iPad to Apple TV.

Should I just change the Apple ID on the iPad and Apple TV to match the PC?

And then for any other Apple product we get - continue to use that one Apple ID?

I guess I could do that. Does seem a bit odd though.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Well, I ended up calling Apple Support.

After trying many, many things we ended up on iTunes on the PC.

There we did a Store/Sign Out.

Then Advanced/Turn Off Home Sharing

Then File/Exit

Restarted the PC.

Started iTunes.

Advanced/Turn On Home Sharing

As that turned on the left panel of iTunes started to show a Home Sharing section.

From that point on we were able to see the shared music on the iPad and Apple TV.

And from Apple TV I could see the folder of photos that I shared from the PC.

So everything worked.

I exited from iTunes on the PC and restarted it. That caused the Home Sharing section

to go away. Which is what the documentation indicated would happen.

Not sure what was wrong. But it was something on the PC/iTunes.

Thanks!

Great it worked!

Just a recap:

- you can't access anything networked from the built-in Videos app on your iPad, only iTunes Home Sharing shares. (Of course, HTTP shares can also be accessed from the built-in Safari. But they're far inferior to, say, SMB or UPnP sharing.) Nothing else.

- you can access other types of shares (SMB, FTP, AFP, UPnP, WebDav or even HTTP) via third-party multimedia player apps (or, if you need document / file access, via, say, GoodReader). Let me know if you need more info on this and I list the apps that I've tested and found working. (Not all apps that are advertised as, say, SMB-compliant do really work with, say, the SMB server in OS X. That is, one should just ignore the AppStore descriptions.)
