merge multiple files into single pdf

How do I combine multiple files, and different file types (e.g., .doc/.docx/.pdf/.jpg) all into a single PDF for distribution?

I need to take word docs, PDFs, and such and combine them into one PDF; the files have to be combined in a specific order. So I need to be able to determine the order so that each final PDF is the same for every indidivual.

Thank you.

No it doesn't. Take another look at it.

Scrivener will load doc, rtf, pdf, png, jpegs and most every other common text file types straight as they are.

I use it regularly and it can definitely do what you want. The only conversion you have to do is after you arrange all your files in the right order, you compile the whole thing and export as pdf.

thanks for the suggestions. I will look at each in detail but after just scanning the descriptions, they all seem to be directions/solutions for merging multiple PDFs into a single PDF file.

I'm starting with an assortment of file types, not just PDFs. I"m trying to avoid having to convert hundreds of non-pdf files first into PDFs and then into a single PDF.

In other words, one person's file might have three word docs, four pdfs, one, web archive file, and 5 .jpgs-- I need to combine all 13 of those files into a single PDF. And I have to put the original docs in a certain order so the pages of the final PDF are in a specific order as well.

You'll need to dump all of those into a third party program that will allow you to organize and manipulate files.

Best suggestion is try Scrivener. You can use the full demo for free on a 30 day trial, so it won't cost you anything to do one job.

In Scrivener, start a new project, import all your stuff, then organize it correctly using the Binder/Navigator on the left. Scrivener will allow you a choice of outputs, and even what to output in the Preferences and Compile dialogue boxes.

thanks, I looked at it and won't work for what I need. I'm trying to avoid adding more steps and this program, along with evrything else everyone suggested requires me to FIRST convert any file into a PDF then combine all those PDFs to a single document.

I foudn something online called PDF converter for Mac by Nuance. It's expensive, $100 but it does just that: I can drag all the different file types into one window, hit 'convert' and I end up with a single PDF. So far nothing else seems to do that.

thanks for all the suggestions.

thanks. I tried a test and selected a .doc file to upload. I got an warning message that text files are converted to RTF and may affect formatting of footnotes and some thing else, images maybe? I can't turn in finished document with formatting issues in the final PDF. I'm going to be combining some word docs that are research papers so they'll have footnotes and images.

Also, I need to include some web forms, created in CFM, and it would allow me to import that file. Not a supported file extension I guess. I'm not sure if I can save the .cfm files in any other format and maintain the document's integrity. It's a fillable form people do online and submitt electronically.

really appreciate the help, maybe can correspond offline. Have to leave desk for few hours now.
