Jul 7, 2012 10:31 PM in response to yoloo1233by Bilbo_cheshire,This is sometime called the Fatal Red X
Try to put it in Disk Mode and Restore the iPod, Refer to this Apple Support Article.on Red X on a probable solution.
If you cant do any of the steps, then try to do the iPod Disk Diagnostics as posted by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help in troubleshooting.
If it doesn't help, then you got to have the Hardisk replaced.
Have a nice day!

Jul 7, 2012 11:00 PM in response to yoloo1233by Bilbo_cheshire,Unfortunately, it may take a few tries, I tired about 5 times, before I got it into Disk mode, buyt failed to Restore as the Hardisk is gone, confirmed by doing the DiskDiagnostic, which also took a number of tries.
Then try to do the Disk Diagnostic, if you cant then it is the Hardisk problem, which mean you have to send it in to replace.

Press MENU for Manual Test, then select IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData
