You can't, ibooks from Apple can only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch - there isn't currently a Mac nor PC reader for them.
"I'm not going to buy an iPad just to read iBooks. No matter what Apple thinks." IDEM !!!
Most of them you can't, they have digital rights management on them that tie them to the iBooks app.
I was under the impression that Mountain Lion was supposed to change this and make it the same as an iphone/ipad. This is a dissapointment and makes no sense.
In the meantime, of course, we buy our books elsewhere and use Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or Googlebooks apps to read them on both iOS and OS X devices.
I got lucky. Six of my ibooks were published by O'Reilly. I also have a Smashing Magazie book that says "unknown publisher". I now know which publishers are going on my favorites list.
Google this..........Google Books Play
Google books play cannot read books purchased from the iBookstore that have DRM, which is what most people want to do.
This is really a shame for Apple! Why I can't see ibooks on all my devices? I paid, shame on you!
Now that Steve Jobs is gone, no one left to care. 😟
Very dissapointed that there is no iBooks for mac... Looks like Kindle is a much better for reading... You can read anywhere
They are losing a lot of customers in a silly way, I will no longer buy books on Apple store. Music is ok because I can listen my songs in any device.
I can read it on my mac. Just follow the steps on this youTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=2vQ5PWa161k
Good as Gold!
Pocket doesn't read ebooks at all. It saves stuff you find online.
No app other than Apple's iBooks can read things from the iBookstore with DRM.
No one could have told me that I would not be able to read books i purchased for ibooks on my mac book pro ! Right about now i am feeling screwed, bam boozled, and led astray ! Shame on you apple !
