No HDMI Port
Hi All,
I am amazed that there is no HDMI port on the MacBook Pro, how can I get around this? I want to hook my MacBook up to my TV.
Thanks in advance. 😕
Kindest regards,

Assuming that you have a MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt or Mini Display port, you can use this from monoprice adapter for connecting HDMI devices. At less than $7, it won't break the bank and it works quite well.
Good luck,
Clinton

Thanks Clinton, I'm not sure what a Thunderbolt display is 😊
New to Apple.
Les,
Do you know your model number? If you go to the menu and select "About This Mac," and then "More Info," you should see your model - something like (in my case) "MacBook Pro - Late 2011". The user manual should also show the Thunderbolt or MiniDisplay port on the left hand side of the computer.
Let me know and I'll tell you if the adapter will work.
Regards,
Clinton
Thank you, it says 'Late 2011". It does have a mini port on the side with what looks like a thunderbolt.
Cheers.
Les
Yep - you have Thunderbolt - I have the same model and it works fine for me.
Good luck!

You need a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter. That plugs into the Thunderbolt/Minidisplayport (they are one in the same port) on the MBP. I've used this one with great success and it has a DVI adapter with it.

It also carries the audio signal, which some other don't.
Thanks Clinton, I really appreciate your help.

Thank you, this forum is great.

Hey Clinton,
Just an after thought, if I am watching a film through my MacBook and using the TV as a monitor with the cable you suggested will the sound be playing through my Mac or TV?
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Les
All depends on the adapter and whether or not it carries the audio signal. If it does nothing else is needed. If it doesn't then you need to connect the audio out of the Mac to an audio in port on the TV.
Whether the adapter Clinton linked to carries the audio signal or not I have no idea.
I'm running mine through my reciever and getting sound through my stereo speakers. Haven't tried connecting it directly to the HDMI on the TV...
Clinton
It carries audio if you're connected via Thunderbolt:
"Note: This product will support audio on Mac® computers that are equipped with Thunderbolt® compatible outputs."
It works just fine.
Clinton
Thanks Clinton.
Huge help!

Will monoprice cable # 9475 do the same job? It seems to carry both audio and video. Is one way better than another? Thanks. I just upgraded from a PowerBook G4 to a Macbook pro so I'm new to "thunderbolt".

I had the same question! This is so helpful!!
