    I'm using iOS 6 and Podcasts 1.1, use cellular data turned off in the app. My iphone was left playing a downloaded podcast unattended, when it finished that podcast it simply went to the next one in my unplayed list (which was new and not yet downloaded) and streamed 90 minutes of it over 3g, so I'll need to pay extra on my data plan to get through the next 2 weeks.


    So Apple have made a distinction between downloading the podcast over cellular data and streaming it. How about a setting for no streaming over 3g!


    I am also very dissapointed in the removal of podcasts from the ipod app.

    Same issue here in Canada.  I have a 6g plan with rogers and rarely go over the 1g mark each month.  Since installing the podcast app 2 months ago I used over 80% the first month and 100% the second month.  Rogers just billed me $50! (on a $30 plan) for going over.  They say they cant do anything for me.  Who is to blame here?  I suppose I am but I feel that apple should recognize this, and hopefully help out other users that face this situation.

    I downloaded the Podcast1.1 app and was distressed to find that while I was at work it ate throgh 4G of a 1.5G data plan.  This leaves me with no data for a month and a $250 bill!  The app was set to only use wireless for downloads.  I have deleted the app and would not recommend its use until these issues are addressed.  I have phoned Apple and added my voice to those who have experienced the same issues.  Apple makes great products but occassionally fail to reach the high standards they set themselves and this is one of those instances. Very dissappointing.

    I had problems with the previous version, meaning that the app downloaded from 3G. Then installed the latest which has the option to download only from WiFi. The app downloaded again from 3G and I spent all my 600MB limit and have to pay extra ~10euro . Except that, I have to disable 3G for the rest of the month, so I do not get charged more . Maybe the worst designed Apple app ever ...

    The exact same happened to me yesterday. I've never used my full data plan allowance until yesterday when I got the SMS from O2 saying I'd maxed it out.


    The Podcast app truely is terrible.


    Looks like the days Apple produced polished products are coming to an end. The rot has set in.

    I really miss listening to podcasts. That was awesome. Way back in the day, before iOS 6, I used to listen to podcasts all the time.

    I have also had this issue today, I have used my monthly allowance of 500MB on O2 UK.

    I was told in a text message I was out of data, the BOLT ON to give me 100MB was £5.


    Driving to work I was listening to a podcast that had downloaded on wifi, only to get to work and used the 100MB.


    In the settings menu for podcasts there is a setting to use mobile data, mine is set to off.

    Still the app has decided to play a downloaded podcast over 3G, I really dispute this as not everywhere has 3G so the glitch must be play local when not in a 3G signal and stream when connected to 3G.


    I will be contacting O2 in the morning.


    Not happy with Apple.

    I am too having issues with the latest version (1.1.1) on iOS6.


    If I have been playing a Podcast then pause it and lock the phone and then recive a call x minutes later after hanging up from the call the Podcast starts playing on its own!


    This happens everytime.


    In iOS6 you can no longer manage Podcasts using the Music app


    Very poor expeirnce overal and very disapointing.

    A long-time Downcast user, I tried Podcasts when it was first released and quickly gave up on it - it was buggy, and the sole compelling feature, syncing with iTunes, didn't work with iOS 5.1.


    I downloaded it again after upgrading to iOS 6, expecting the bugs to be ironed out and looking forward to iTunes syncing making managing podcasts easier - I listen to them on my Mac and my old iPod as well as my iPhone. I've just given in and downloaded Downcast again (thankfully it stored all its settings in iCloud). It's easier to manage my podcasts in iTunes manually than it is to wrestle with the Podcasts app.


    The biggest issue is the random marking of huge chunks of feeds as unplayed, along with inconsistent syncing with iTunes. I listened to 2 podcasts on my iPod the other day, then synced it with iTunes. Syncing my iPhone failed to mark them as played there, so I had to do it manually. The app has decided to mark them as unplayed 3 times since then.


    Additionally, an untitled podcast feed with no episodes has appeared. Podcasts appear in a random order that I don't seem to be able to change. Downloading of new episodes is inconsistent and opaque - how often does it download? How do I manually trigger downloads? Generally the user experience is woefully far below Apple's usual standards.


    There are several great podcast apps in the App Store. Apple's own isn't one of them. There's been a lot of fuss about Maps, but at least mapping the planet is hard. Several small developers have shown that building a great podcast app for iOS isn't difficult - Apple just needed to add podcast syncing. Or better yet, provide those developers with an API so that they can add it to their own apps.

    Yep same **** happened to me. Used up my data allowance in just 10 days!


    Ps. I thought Apple products were supposed to be the most intuitive in the world. How come it took me a couple of days to figure out that you can access extra controls to set a sleep timer, etc for a podcast. I only figured it out by accident - it's not clear at all to the user.

    Same for me as well. It ate about 10GB of my data (according to my mobile provider app) before I realised what was happening and I had to delete both Podcast and iTunes U, in case they were both downloading stuff in the background. I am so not looking forward to receiving my bill this month.

    Same problem here.

    * Podcast 1.1.1 ate up my 1GB data allowance and leaving me with a 100 USD bill at the end of the month

    * Some episodes are not downloaded over WiFi for offline use (very strange)

    * Podcasts starts playing after finishing a phone call


    Desperately looking forward to a solution for these bugs.

    I haven't noticed the auto downloading cellular data, but it definitely is a crap app.  I had mine marking a bunch of episodes partially played, and mixing up titles and descriptions and duplicate files.  It would not sync all the episodes, the titles would be in the proper order, but the files associated with those titles would often be incorrect, with the descriptons incorrect for BOTH title AND audio, sometimes.  Totally bizarre.  How can Apple POSSIBLY have released such a piece of junk?


    I tried it with my Iphone 4s when it first came out with the iOS update, and quickly got rid of it I hadn't checked to see if it sucked away my data plan but I didn't have it running forever before I deleted it.


    I thought I'd try again with Iphone 5/iOS6 and it is still the same.  HOW LONG has this been out, Apple??

    Yes, I find it disturbing that with podcast subscriptions turned off it still pings my data every time I open the app.  It doesn't have any reason to use data.  Along with the freezes and the podcast date millenium bug, we have also lost the ability to pause podcast downloads.  While the date bug may seem insignificant, there are a lot of podcasts out there with the episode number tacked on to the end of a long name ---- a name the Podcast app cuts off and managing the app becomes even more tedious.  If you can't fix the problem, at least make the date editable data from within the info box on iTunes.


    How do you take a product that worked perfectly fine while in the iPod app, give it it's own app, and now it is the most problematic program on the phone?  I hope for Apple's sake it was technically necessary to split the two.  I really don't appreciate the Podcast app shuting down when I try to browse my music while listening to a podcast, nevermind all the other problems.

    After reading all these posts I get the sense that Apple isn't listening and for some reason does not care.  I also bought the app Downcast, it looks like it will be much better than the Podcast app.  So far the way podcasts are laid out is very logical and easy to use.  I can also stop it from streaming or downloading when not in WiFi.  $1.99 seems worth it.
