Finch is the reason why people think Apple fans are pompous. The message couldn't be clearer, as he put it. As far as the problem goes, you're not alone and the consensus is that it's a Apple software problem, not a your-computer problem. Not surprising considering Apple's track record with Windows computers.

There's one possible solution at appleask.com : http://www.appleask.net/260817-ipod-touch-itunes-9-2-apple-mobile.html but it involves screwing around with the registry. If you dont know what the registry is, it's the master index for the computer that basically tells the computer to handle most everything. Messing with it is unwise unless you're confident you can complete ALL the steps EXACTLY as assigned. At the very least backup the registry which you can do easily. Windows computers, type REGEDIT into the START MENU, then select FILE > EXPORT and name the exporting registry back whatever you want.

Me? I'm going to uninstall Apple, cause frankly the largest computer company in the world (Apple) should be able to make their new version of their program work on a computer running the operating system of the other largest computer company in the world (Microsoft).

Thank you soypisto75. I followed your instructions exactly and they worked. I now have iTunes again.

The only thing that happened was that I unistalled AMDS (apple mobile device support) 3 times but it never got removed from the add/remove list in the control panel. But this didn't hinder the successful process. Thank you for telling us what AMDS stands for in your instructions. I would not have know to look for 'apple mobile device support' in the control panel if you just wrote AMDS.

Also, before I clicked FINISH I plugged all my apple devices into the computer (separetely) so the drivers would get installed. I'm not sure if I didn't do that, if I would have had a problem when I went to use another device, so I didn't want to take any chances.

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!

Thanks soypisto!

Apple - that was ridiculous. You don't test your software updates properly, so I spend 3 hours over two nights mucking around to fix it. Including several attempts to uninstall AMDS. Great way to turn customers off your expensive products. Drip drip drip and eventually customers get frustrated enought to try somewhere else.

Thanks, soypisto75!!! One small additional thing that I had to do. I was able to uninstall successfully all the "Apple" programs except for the "Apple Mobile Device Support" one. That kept producing the same error that I had experienced previously with attempts at reinstalling iTunes. Success came when I tried to uninstall it not through the Windows 7 Control Panel "uninstall" function, but through the CCleaner uninstall function. That worked.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post solutions. A huge blessing.

Thank you soooo much soypisto75. Many of us may be amatuers with some computer processes but despite the 'less than encouraging advice' from others, you offered a simple and very effective way of solving the problem. Thank you. We are not all idiots and it had nothing to do with my administrator or security settings, there was obviously a problem with the Apple update and your suggestion was the only solution.
